Christmas Hampers

The Alexandra Centre Society is a registered charity with over 45 years of history supporting our Calgary community.  Every year, the Alexandra Centre Society provides Christmas Hampers to those who are experiencing food insecurity issues with-in our community.  We raise funds and collect necessities to support our Christmas Hamper Program.

A huge thank you to our community for supporting the Alexandra Centre Society in 2021!

During the 2021 Christmas Hamper campaign, ACS distributed 265 hampers to over 835 people including 64 seniors and 396 children. This was another record year for us.

The pandemic continues to create logistical challenges for us, but our staff and volunteers did our best to plan and provide as many hampers as possible to eligible recipients referred to us from our partner organizations. This year, we opted to provide all recipients with grocery gift cards (instead of fresh grocery items) ranging from $50 - $200 depending on the size of their family. Gift cards were supplemented with warm weather items, non-perishable food items, toys, gifts, and toiletry items generously donated by the community.

We are grateful to continue our partnerships with the 134th Sparks, 32nd Brownies, 18th Brownies, 98th Girl Guides, 32nd Pathfinders, Inglewood Child Development Centre, Colonel Walker School, Ramsay School, Wymbin Yoga, Kido Care, Sir Winston Churchill School, Inglewood Silver Threads Association, Moonstone Creation, the Calgary Stampede, Heritage Park Historical Village, and Sage Pharmacy.  Thank you for assisting us with collecting hamper items! In addition to collecting items, many students and guides also created handmade cards and ornaments for hamper recipients. We are so appreciative to the youth that took time out of their day to create something special and meaningful to others in their community!

We are also thankful for the monetary and in-kind donations from our corporate partners including Inter Pipeline, Enbridge, Tea Trader, IKEA, U-HAUL, Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club, Soap for Hope Canada, Calgary Reads, Hoffman Law, Driving Force, The Deane House Restaurant, AHS IT Resource Management and Business Services, Pasquini & Associates Consulting, and Commons Church. There are also so many of you in the community that have also made private and individual financial donations that contributed to the success of this hamper program. We are so grateful for your support!

This year, we were able to welcome back limited volunteers. Volunteers came to assist with sorting, packing, pickups, and deliveries. We were so excited to see some familiar faces and welcome new members into our community! Thank you for gifting us with your time during this busy holiday season.

Thank you for assisting the Alexandra Centre Society in providing hampers this year. We are so glad that we can continue this tradition of helping others in need at this time of year.

We look forward to continuing our charitable work in the new year!

Thank you for your support!

Happy Holidays!

2022 Christmas Hamper Program Information:

We are not able to accept self-referrals to our program.  To be considered for a hamper, a referral request, from a social worker or service agency, needs to be sent from the referring agencies business e-mail address.  Due to our high volume of requests and inquiries to our Christmas Hamper Program, phone calls and e-mails from those seeking to self-refer to our program will not be answered.  We are only able to contact referring agencies directly regarding invitations to apply on a client’s behalf.  Social workers and referring agencies are welcome to contact us, by e-mail, in October 2022 to request an invitation to refer clients to our 2022 program.

Some examples of those that may be able to help with a referral are:

  • School Councillor or Principal
  • Social Worker or Case Worker
  • Housing Company
  • Family Doctor, Primary Care Network, or Alberta Health Services
  • Religious Leader
  • Community Resource Centre
  • Social Service Agency (examples: CUPS, Immigrant Services Calgary, The Mustard Seed, etc.)
